Photo Works

After two months of not blogging, i find myself yet here again typing and sharing my thoughts and insights.

Well, I don't have much anything to share except I had a wonderful time dealing with my photography. I have established myself as a commercial and business advertising photographer here in Davao City, Philippines and I think I pretty much have the right market here.

Last July, my mentor commercial and advertising photographer flew in from Manila and had a shoot and mentoring session with him. It's a lot easier working personally than to talk to my mentor through Facebook. I had heaps of photoshoots for the past weeks and most of them were commercial. Lastly, I showcased my photos and advertised my work in the 1st Kadayawan Trade Fair and Exhibit at the Davao Convention Center last August 18-21, 2011.

Things that I've done were simple but it made an impact. It's time to "un-stereotype" Davao photographers here because it is said that all Davao photographers end up being a wedding photographer. And I said, no. Wedding and Business Advertising Photography are pretty much different in perspective and approach. It's Moment vs. Selling.

Anyways, here are my recent photo works. Enjoy!

My Cup of Tea

Here  is another collection of my concept shoot with Kelly entitled, "Graffiti".

This concept most probably out stands all the photo shoots I did during my entire stay in Mackay, Australia. The wardrobe that Kelly wore was one of her creations; during the time when she was still in Fashion School. I pretty much liked the heels that she was wearing here and somehow complimented the whole outfit and made suitable for the composition of my photos. It pretty much contrasted the back ground and the wardrobe she was wearing.

If I stayed a bit longer in Australia, I would have probably built a name for myself slowly and surely. I think I am ready to tackle the professional side of photography. Fashion would be my priority and Wedding photography comes second. It's a different ball game in OZ and I have plenty of Filipino Ideas and concepts that would probably attract and amuse strayans. Oh well, till next year OZ! Ill be coming for you and winter!

Big Bang in Jan

Well, it's been more than a month now since arriving here down under. My oh my! I totally am having fun and having the time of my life. Someone said to me, "It's just being out and about...", and I'm glad I took his advice.

I started walking/running around the first week of January and it became part of my daily routine since then. I just  thought of doing something for a start and to keep me off from slacking around which can lead to a total sad phase of gaining unwanted weight again. LOL Since then, I never felt better. Having to wake up around 530AM everyday feels like a renewal of the soul.

I never thought that I can jump on a trampoline ever again... till 3 weeks ago. LOL The tramp that was setup at the backyard of my sister's house says it can hold up to 150KG, and I'm 99KG considering that I lost nearly 10KG's for the past couple of months. Feels like a kid again when I'm on the trampoline. It's a great fitness exercise too.

And for the major major events...

I googled "Mackay Photography Club" a couple of weeks ago and got a good hit on it. I was looking for a gang of photography enthusiasts here, where I am staying, so that I can meet up and join in. Fortunately, calling the numbers that were in the website that lead me, I got the right club. Coincidently enough, they were having their first meeting on that day when I called them. I just had to get involved. It's a great exposure for me having to be part of such great photography enthusiasts which by the way who are very very very good in photography.

January 29, 2011, I had my first swimming lesson... and it was oh so great! I never tried having swimming lessons when I was kid and I reckon that it was not too late for me to go through with it at my age. Pat Wright, very well known coach in Queensland who might have coached Geoff Huegill(I'm not really sure about this), trained me for my introductory swim and I felt honored about it. My wing muscles were burning from all the swim that I did. Holy! I might have done 300m but it was all gooooood. Tuesday's the next swim for me. And oh, first swim lesson was for free. Sweet!

Did I tell you that I had swam "the Great Barrier Reef"? Oh yeah! Words could not express the feeling of swimming in such wondrous body of water only found in part of the world. You can look into the album I posted in my Facebook account, which you'll have to add me first. I wouldn't mind adding blog friends, it would be an honor having you as my friends in Facebook :)

I recently got myself into boxing again, the gym right next to the hotel we were staying in Airlie Beach. I couldn't resist trying. Man oh man, 7months with out training is very tiring! An hour in the gym gave me a hard time! But I did good. Now, back in town, I managed to find a boxing club which training occurs every Mondays to Thursdays. The trainer was obnoxious though. He said that I could last 30min of the 1hour and 30min of training because of my physical attribute. Well mister, I maybe Fat but I'm not a slack. My body was built for athleticism but due to the past years of slacking, I gained weight. Everyone might have gone through that stage though. Well, I'm taking it as a challenge. Let's just see what I can do :)

I have recently organized my first Photo shoot and it's on. It's set on Tuesday, 1st of February. I don't really know how to organize such an event. I just observed how my friend Carmen Smith does it. I wrote about her Photo shoot not long ago. Looking for models was the toughest part. One time, while I was in the mall, I saw this girl who was working in this clothes shop. Her beauty and likeness to fit in my concept struck me. And I just had to ask her. She was keen about it at first but after a week, she declined... sad :( That was randomly epic of me to invite someone who I don't know to model for my shoot. Fortunately, I found a couple of fine looking ladies who fits my concept as well. When I was declined by the girl in the clothes store, it felt like being turned by a girl who you're wooing. Sh*t! LOL I'm not gonna give any hints about the concept that I'm making. You'll just have to see yourself when I'm done with it and make it as one of my blog entries for the future :)

And oh yeah, Since Australian Open Started, I got to watch the OZ open every day for the whole day. It's like watching NBA in America which I haven't really tried yet cause I never been to America yet. LOL

I have yet to try:

  • Lawn Bowling
  • Tennis
  • Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef
  • Cycling
  • and making more lots of friends here in Mackay :)
  • Sydney Trip
  • Gold Coast Trip with overnights

I just wanted to writing instead of posting pictures for a change. Hope you all have a good read on this :)

Gallery of Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!! Hope you all had a wonderful and blessed holiday!

I'm starting new year with a bang people! Every year, we tend to make up new year resolutions and ending up forgetting them. Well I say, suck it up already and just do it. I don't make new year resolutions because I still think of the same thing...

For the past few weeks, it has become a series of whirlwind events and genuine memories. Just spent a 5day getaway over in Airlie Beach, accommodated in a Penthouse suite to say the least.

I've recently introduced myself on how to use Adobe Photoshop and I think I have managed it pretty well. Honestly, my work is over all "Amateur" and I haven't really explored in to what the software is capable of. I recently did my first "pre-nuptial photoshoot" for my Ate and photographed everything on her wedding day last December 28, 2010. Her wedding is the main reason why I'm in down under.

Here is a gallery of the bridesmaids and flower girls from my precious Ate's Wedding day. Hope you all enjoy the work that I have done and like them.

P.S.

My Ate's prenup photos are still on the process and will post it soon.

A Colorful Photo Shoot

COLOR SPLASH
Last November 21, 2010, concluded another successful photo shoot organized by Ms. Carmen Smith where the word color rendered the event's outcome. "Color Splash" - the photo shoot's title and concept, where 19 photographers and 3 models have participated in the said event. The success and the outcome of the photo shoot were all Carmen's ideas which took a long time to prepare in spite her busy life as a college student everyday.

Carmen Smith

"Color Splash" is a concept inspired by Katy Perry's song,  "California Girls". Bright and funky colors were used and toys of different sorts were also made as accessories, same as those seen in Katy Perry's music video. The styling and design of the girls' wardrobe were all of Carmen Smith's creations and so as the model's make-up, which included candies that was used to accent the model's hair and make-up.

Photographers who participated in the event were all divided into groups of 3. Each group had at least 45minutes to work with one model at a time. It was a hot day out in Harana's playground, one of Davao City's oldest and popular family restaurants, but the heat did not bother everyone; the bright and beautiful colors might have soothed everybody.

Modeling and photography are two perfect combinations that have gained popularity here in Davao City. A lot of modeling enthusiasts and photography hobbiests has teamed up to practice their skills and talent. It is already an industry ready to take the whole country by storm. It is amazing to see how a simple themed shoot works.

The Idea of the Rising Industry
It looks easy to photograph and pose for the camera, but actually its not. It takes a lot of skills to photograph a moment, choosing when and where to capture at the same time. It also takes a lot of physical and mental concentration to do a pose and holding it on together while portraying the theme of the shoot.

Basically, it all comes down with the photographer and the model’s “building up their portfolios”. The photo shoots are the model and photographer’s essential collection of their works. It is a way to notch up their value as a model and a photographer to pave way for future opportunities in the industry. I can say that the modeling and photography enthusiasts genuinely display a world class talent like no other.

A skilled photographer and model has to learn to preserve their value. They say everyone can do photography and everyone can model by just a click on one’s DSLR camera. If everyone can do it, what is left for models who have worked hard to reach their level as a valued model? Someone said that modeling and photography may end up likely being just a thing of the past.

I Miss...

I miss playing badminton. The thrill, excitement and eagerness to win, and everything about it.

I miss doing magic. People getting fascinated, amused and getting scared and the slight of hands.

I miss running... believe me, I do.

I miss school.

I miss playing music. The soul full mix of an acoustic love song's hopeless romantic.

I miss traveling around.

I miss my friends. Even though we see each other almost everyday.

I miss writing random thoughts, enlightenments.

I miss the photo shoots. TNG

and I miss being myself...
